Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Doreen Mwamba, has announced that 6,048 more people in Mungwi District will be added to the Social Cash Transfer programme.
Speaking in Chitimukulu yesterday, Ms. Mwamba said the government has seen how the programme is improving the lives of vulnerable communities, which is why the number of beneficiaries is being increased.
She urged people to support the work of her ministry and encouraged beneficiaries to share ideas on how services can be improved.
She also warned parents and guardians against marrying off underage girls, saying they risk arrest.
She further urged locals to take advantage of initiatives such as Keeping Girls in School and the free education policy to ensure children complete their education.
Earlier, Mungwi District Commissioner Muma Musonda pointed out the impact of the Social Cash Transfer, while Council Chairperson Grace Chomba appealed for even more beneficiaries, citing the district’s size and growing population.
In his vote of thanks, Koni Village Headman Davis Chansa said the programme has helped many vulnerable people, especially the elderly, to live more dignified lives.
