For years, caregivers at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) have been forced to sleep outside on the floor due to a shortage of shelter at the facility.
Some of the caregivers told Diamond News that they are appealing to authorities to construct more shelters to improve their living conditions.
Headman Godwin Chibangula of Liteta Village in Chibombo District expressed sadness over the situation, saying he has been sleeping outside for a month.
He also revealed that dozens of people share two toilets, which have no doors or tissue.
Meanwhile, Dimi Sakala, a resident of Kafue, has urged the government to build an additional shelter for women, warning that the situation will worsen during the rainy season.
Another caregiver, Samson Chiyabuka, said they have endured harsh cold weather and called on the government to provide caregivers with proper sleeping facilities, as both men and women currently share one small shelter.
