A Chief’s Retainer from Moyo chiefdom in Pemba and his wife have reported each other to Police after they both sustained severe injuries during a physical altercation following a marital dispute.
The couple has been identified as 54-year-old Charles Muchindu and Kasamba Chitombwe, 45, with the fight occurring around 02:00 hours on 6th August, 2025, in Mukombo village.
Facts in the report indicate that the dispute arose from a marital disagreement after the wife had allegedly exchanged their oxen for cows with other farmers within the chiefdom the previous day.
During the fight, the wife sustained facial swelling and puffiness around the eyes, rendering her temporarily unable to see, while her right middle finger was partially severed after being bitten by the husband.
Meanwhile, the wife struck the husband on the right toe with an axe, causing it to partially detach and hang by the skin, in addition to biting his lower lip, partially cutting it.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, says the couple was initially treated at Pemba Mini Hospital and has since been referred to Monze Mission Hospital, where they are currently admitted, with their condition reported to be stable.
Daka says both individuals will be charged with Causing Grievous Harm, contrary to Section 229 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
