Zambia has denied claims by the US embassy that an acid spill from a collapsed mine dam in February still poses serious health risks.
The spill, which flowed into the Kafue River—a key drinking water source—followed heavy rains in the copper-mining region.
The US embassy, led by Ambassador Michael C. Gonzales, has since restricted official travel to the area, warning of potential airborne toxins and widespread contamination.
Zambian authorities led by Information Minister Cornelius Mweetwa, however, insist the situation is under control.
