A tipper-truck driver from Mazabuka has suffered fatal head injuries following a road traffic accident that occurred along the Sinazeze–Batoka Detour Road, approximately 10 kilometres west of Sinazeze Township.
He has been identified as Emmet Mweemba, whose age is yet to be determined.
The accident is reported to have occurred at around 06:30 hours.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, stated that the accident was caused by excessive speed.
The driver failed to negotiate a curve and subsequently veered off the road to the right, overturning into a deep ditch.
Meanwhile, the two passengers who were on board the tipper-truck survived with varying injuries.
Phales Milimo, from Chikwana village in Monze’s Ufwenuka chiefdom, sustained general body pains.
Thirty-six-year-old Hildah Mutinta, also from the same area, suffered a bruised left leg and general body discomfort.
The vehicle sustained a shattered front windscreen, a depressed left door, and damage to the roof.
Daka has reminded motorists to exercise maximum caution on the roads by observing speed limits, reducing speed when approaching curves and detour areas, and ensuring the safety of passengers at all times.
