Former Health Minister Kapembwa Simbao has failed to secure the required 50% plus one threshold after polling 15 votes out of 36 in the Zambia We Want presidential elections.
His closest rival, Ernest Mwansa, who garnered 10 votes, will face him in a re-run on dates yet to be announced.
Other contenders Robert Sichinga and Auxilia Ponga trailed with 3 votes each, while Richwell Siamunene managed 5 votes.
Announcing the results, Returning Officer Mwandi Nsama says Mr. Simbao fell short of the minimum 18 votes required, hence the re-run between the two top candidates.
And Mr. Nsama says some positions remain unresolved, the Chairmanship after a candidate withdrew, the Local Government portfolio which requires 50%, the Home Affairs post that was omitted, and the Chaplaincy, where no candidate attained victory.
Meanwhile, several leaders have been successfully elected, including Muhabi Lungu as Secretary General, Nicholas Phiri as Chairman for Agriculture, Lloyd Kaziya as Chairman for Defence, and George Chilumanda as Chairman for Foreign Affairs, among others.
