South African have voiced their support for late former president Edgar Lungu’s family in the impasse on his burial.
Although a South African High Court has ordered that the remains of president Lungu be repatriated as demanded by the government, South Africans say it is the family who have a right to the deceased.
During an informative program on 702 Talk Radio in South Africa, hosts referenced two major cases where former apartheid and minority government President, P.W Botha whose family refused state funeral and the case of Ahmed Kathrada, Muslim anti-apartheid veteran and former Robben Island inmate, who requested that President Jacob Zuma should NOT attend his funeral.
Majority callers urged President Hichilema to respect the wishes of the family.
President has created suspicion by insisting to attend the funeral when he and president Lungu never saw eye-to-eye in life.
The Lungu family states that a dignified burial entails putting the former president to rest without those who did honor ECL in life.
